Knowing a little about Amal, inspired me a lot to know more about her. I was always mesmerized with her gorgeous looking creations. I personally feel any women can look and feel like a princes wearing them. So delicate and feminine yet bold and powerful. The designs are inspired from the Culture of Oman. The collection is perfect for today’s woman who is family centric yet capable of achieving her goals in career too.
I have recently caught up with Ms Amal Al Raisi for a chat …

What did the biggest rookie mistake you made when just starting out?
Well Oman has continued to be my biggest source of inspiration when it comes to my collections. Creating trendy and up to date ensembles keeping in mind the inspiration is the real challenge. So when I am working on my designs I find inspiration in everything around me.
How is working in fashion different today than from when you started out?
Well when I started off as a designer the awareness of fashion among Omanis were less but now everybody is aware of what is trending and the importance of been fashionable is a necessity.

I believe that social media plays a major role in keeping people up to date with fashion and trends. It is a great platform to see what is happening in the fashion world internationally.
What was your biggest fear when going out and starting your own line?
Well I believe that there is no success without taking risks. The fear of not been accepted was my fear while I started off my label but it was a fear that made me strive for giving the best.
What made you want to expand your business from local market to overseas?
I believe in challenging myself as I grow. So I thought to myself why not challenge myself to go international and give it a try.
What is your favorite part being a designer?
My favorite part is to watch women wearing my creations.

I want them to be able to feel self confident and cherish their beauty with grace.
There is so much pressure for designers to come out with their greatest collection season after season. What advice would you give to young designer just starting out and hoping to make it in the industry?
I would advise the younger designers to always be true to heritage and culture and at the same time be aware of trend forecast. Always believe in yourself and lift the bar to be better.
